About The Duchess Theatre

The Duchess Theatre opened in 1929 with Tunnel Trench, a play featuring Emlyn Williams in the cast.

The theatre is built with the stalls below street level, both to overcome the scale of the site and to maintain the rights of neighbours to ancient lights. Notable productions include Oh! Calcutta!, The Dirtiest Show in Town, Alan Bennett's Untold Stories, Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story and its current resident comedy The Play That Goes Wrong.

The Duchess Theatre was purchased in 2005 by Nica Burns and Max Weitzenhoffer forming part of the Nimax Theatres group.
